Following two successful years, The Data Lab will be expanding our MSc scholarship programme to 130 students for 2017/18. This represents an increase of over 40% from last year.
Our third cohort of MSc programmes include collaborations with 11 universities from across Scotland including Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and the West of Scotland.
In 2016/17, with funding from the Scottish Funding Council and the European Social Fund, 90 MSc places were funded across seven Scottish universities and more than 50 students will be undertaking a paid industrial placement with Scottish organisations this summer.
Helping students get data science jobs in Scotland is at the core of our business. The Data Lab students will join the most extensive and innovative scholarship programme in Scotland.
The Data Lab MSc courses are guided by both the needs of Scottish industry and the cutting-edge research of Scottish academia to make sure that students are equipped with the skills needed placed to start their data science career.
Students will have the opportunity to complete a paid three-month industrial placement for their dissertation project. Through these projects, students get the chance to apply their learnt skills to life problems and get familiar with the working world.
As part of The Data Lab MSc, student’s receive additional technical and ‘business-ready’ skills training and we also run a year-long data competition for all students. This comprises a series of hackathons that allows students to apply their data science skills using real datasets from Scottish organisation.
